cms africa started the way small things start; our founder oduor jagero used to co-organize joomladay kenya…
everyone, even those that used other frameworks such as WordPress and Drupal, loved jooomladay kenya. they were attending in droves.
So he said to folks like Serem and Aswani, ‘why don’t we start an event that will bring everyone together?’ we agreed that we could start an event or a gathering that would bring everyone in the CMS community together. We decided name it CMS Africa Summit.
we had an amazing support from Automattic
It was a bold move given that we had no backing to pull together an event that would bring together the entire community together. But just a year before that, at the Joomlaworld Conference in the USA, Oduor Jagero had met the founder of WordPress, Matt Mullenweg, and he agreed to support CMS Africa in any way he can.
venturing out to the rest of africa.
And so we held CMS Africa Summit in Kenya for two years, 2015 and 2016. In 2017, the team, against all odds, ventured out of Kenya to Uganda where a partnership with Airtel Uganda and Automattic helped us do a great event. The story does not end there. We have since taken the event to Rwanda, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana.
